As an ethically focused company content on engaging with the most sustainable design solutions available outlining a printing press with a similar ideology is a very important aspect of the company.

After defining a location and office for the company I started researching into environmentally friendly printers in and around the Brighton area. One of the main reasons the group decided to work from Brighton is because of its vibrant culture and booming creative scene. A benefit of this was the amount of choice available for environmentally friendly print services, in Brighton alone there are a number of firms focused on providing clients with the most sustainable solutions available allowing me to select the most relevant and professional company to work with.

After reviewing a range of printers I came across a printing company called 'Gemini Press'. Based in Shoreham, West Sussex the company pride themselves on being one of the most environmentally friendly print presses in England, with over forty years of experience providing print services to clients. Other printers that I came across offered sustainable solutions but not to the extent and level of professionalism achieved by Gemini.

The firm is relevant to our company as not only are they one of the most sustainable printers that I came across but they also offer a range of print services and finishing methods relevant to the types of outcome we would produce as a company.

  • Based in Shoreham, West Sussex - Very near to Brighton.
  • Offering print solutions locally in Hove and Brighton for over 40 years - experienced firm - reliable.
  • Regarded as one of the leading eco-friendly printers in the UK.
  • The company offer a range of services.

  • Gemini Press is one of the leading eco friendly printers in the UK.
  • They provide environmentally friendly green printing services backed by a service of environmental credentials that allow them to work under "green label printing".
  • ISO 14001 Certified printers - The international standard specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system.
  • The ISO 14001 environmental management standards exist to help organisations minimise how their operations affect the environment.

Not only are Gemini Press one of the leading environmentally friendly printers in the UK but they also offer a huge range of services and finishing methods, this is very applicable to our company who are focused on producing sustainable print based solutions.

Another print press that really stood out from the competition is 'mcr print' who have offices in both Brighton and London. The company aims to create high quality printed outcomes and utilise the most environmentally friendly approaches to the print process possible.

The print press have relevance to our company as they are located close to our office in Brighton, take an environmentally friendly approach to printing and offer a complete range of print & finishing services.

Although Gemini Press would be used as our main printers MCR Print will for a nice supporting company if any problems with our primary printer arise.

Much like Gemini Press, MCR print take pride in their sustainable approach to the print process, they source sustainable materials use carbon conscious techniques and always strive to improve their current process to make it more sustainable. All of these traits are important aspects we as a company look for in a printers as our goal is to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible.

  • MCR print love the challenge of finding environmentally friendly options.
  • They also aim to teach clients who don't have a sustainable outlook about the importance of sustainability.
  • All stock is Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) approved.
  • The FSC logo can be applied to outcomes to show the audience sustainable stocks have been used.
  • Waste paper, out of date stock and off cuts are all recycled locally.
  • The resulting material makes up part of the recycled stock available.
  • Refillable toner cartridges used in didgtal proofing.

The company offer a range of services all relevant to the types of outcome we would produce.

As well as a range of print techniques and outcomes MCR print also offer a range of finishing techniques which is useful as it means we don't have to source an additional company for print finishes.

  • Lamination.
  • Spot UV.
  • Embossing.
  • Die cutting.
  • Laser cutting.

The company also run a go-green challenge to promote their environmentally friendly printing services to clients. The scheme basically challenges customers and businesses to compare the costing of their sustainable service against other unsustainable printers. The challenge is in place because MCR Print aim to offer a cost effective service that often rivals the prices of unethical print companies.

The go green challenge is an attractive scheme to read about as a small company looking to offer sustainable design outcomes as finding cost effective services is vital to the success of the business.
